Well, I’ve officially become a guy I never thought I’d be: a guy selling his vehicle because his wife is having a baby.

Last night, I listed my Jaguar for sale on eBay. Here’s the listing:

It’s a great car, but I just feel bad that it spends so much time sitting. So add that to the fact that I could use the money to get a) baby stuff, b) paint for the P71, and c) a much cheaper third/toy car...I guess it’s just time.

I listed it back in June, but decided against selling it. I had started the auction low, and it was getting near to my reserve ($6000) when I shut it down. This time, I’m trying a Buy-It-Now with a best offer option. I’m not interested in selling the car for $800, $1400, $2500, $3200, whatever. I’d like $6000 or somewhere right around there, I think it’s probably worth more than that, but it needs a little bit of work in the form of a voltage regulator and a fuel tank changeover valve.

So here I am. 30 years old, married, selling my car because of a baby I haven’t even met yet. But I know it’s the right thing to do...I mean it’s the right thing to do for the car, to get it in the hands of somebody who has time for it. Doesn’t mean I like it, but I understand it.

Yeah, I mean if I drove the Jag every weekend or whatever it would be a thing, but I haven’t driven it with any kind of regularity in over a year. If I thought it would be something I’d hold against the kid, I wouldn’t do it, but that’s not how it is...I’ve wanted to sell the car for a little while, so it’s good that I’m getting to sell it for a good reason.

It’s mostly the nursery that’s an expense, plus there’s some other non-baby-but-kinda-baby-related house stuff that needs to get done. And if it gets a new coat of paint on my Crown Vic too, well that’s pretty good.

haha just wait until its 3a.m. and the kid wont stop crying and you think i’ll blow off some steam by going for a ride in the Jag..... o wait I sold my car for this. Having kids is great (overall, but there are some trying times) this wont be the last sacrifice you make. I cant even count how many times i’ve made an afternoon snack for myself and I dont get to eat any of it. O but if you plan for that, they wont eat it, they only eat it if you only make enough for yourself.

When the baby arrives, you won’t have time for a 3rd toy/car. Also it’s well known that men gain weight after the kids arrive. Sooo... my thoughts are that if you’re gonna have a 3rd vehicle, make it a bicycle.

As someone who just last weekend threw his first 1 year old’s birthday party, I can sympathize. Babies are exceedingly expensive.

I have a fear that if I don't buy a fun car soon, I won't get to for the next 20 years.

That's basically my worry, that if I don't get something before the kid is born, I won't get something for a long time. Also, I have difficulty with the idea of selling a car and not buying another car with the money...I did it when I sold my Corvair, and it felt super weird not replacing it with another vehicle.

Ha, noooooooope. My wife has an SUV, and my P71 will baby. So whatever replaces the Jag does not necessarily need to baby.
